James Borgas's 1969 Ford Zephyr mk4.

10 years ago I had the opportunity to puchase a Mk4 Zephyr when a former club member from the Zephyr club put it up for sale. I was immediately interested as I knew the car well and had always admired it. A price was decided upon and I purchased it. The car was an automatic and ran on gas and petrol. The body needed to be resprayed because it was a mixture of diffent coloured blue and green. After having problems with the gas system I decided to replace it and invest in a better system but i still had the occasional problem. Often the gas would freeze up and once when I was at Yunta the motor wouldn't kick over with gas or petrol. After leaving the bonnet up for several hours in the sun hey presto it started. Later I removed the gas system to obtain Historical Registration. Since then the car runs better and easier to start.

VALE JAMES BORGAS 22.7.1943 - 6.9.2020

Sadly I have to report the sudden passing of our member & friend James Borgas.

James loved Ford Zephyrs and you most likely remember his green 1969 Ford Zephyr mk4 which he drove on many a club run.

He bought the MK4 from a former Zephyr club member and then did it up, giving it a needed paint job, and sorting it out mechanically.

He and his wife Kaye joined the club at the same time as Basil did, not being happy with the Zephyr & Zodiac runs.

I got to know James and Kaye & Jacob on club runs. He was always friendly and often cheeky.

He was always stirring me up, saying "When are you going to wash your car" or he would look under my car bonnet and shake his head saying "Don't like your battery clamp"

He always got the reaction he wanted from me, but next time I would see him he had a piece of angle iron to improve my battery clamp. "Here you go, fit that".

Brenton Watkins agrees :- "James was a stirrer, as many years ago when I talked to him on why I was getting an oil warning light in the Zephyr.

WE Finally worked out that I wasn’t placing the dip stick in the right way and not going all the way down.

So for a time following that, he gave me the name “dip stick”.

Keryn & I got to know them as fellow Zephyr owners and how they took in Jacob to bring him up.

They brought him along to meeting and runs and I can remember arranging for Jacob to get a ride in John Babcock’s side car, which thrilled him".

Thanks for the memories James, you will be missed.

The AAAC expresses its deepest sympathies to James' wife Kaye, their grandson Jacob and family.
